The home run, his sixth of the season, gave the Waves a three-game sweep of the Broncos and gave Pepperdine's six seniors a victory in their final home game. Prior to the game, in rememberance of former Pepperdine standout Patrick Rooney (who passed away in an airplane accident in January), 1 1/2-year old Will Rooney - the son of Patrick and nephew of Colin - threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Colin.
It wasn't the first memorable thing that Rooney had been involved with that day. The game against Santa Clara ended in the bottom of the 11th inning as Colin Rooney led off the frame with a walk-off, solo home run in a 4-3 victory. May 17, 2009: The Pepperdine baseball team's home finale will be long-remembered by the Rooney family and the hundreds in attendance.
